This is a profusely illustrated introduction to the Eames' work and philosophy, with personal anecdotes, previously unpublished photographs and interviews with friends and associates.
Renowned designers Charles and Ray Eames are among the greatest designers of the 20th century. They are, of course, most well known for their groundbreaking and iconic furniture designs, but they also created important, creative, experimental, and beautiful work in the areas of architecture, exhibit design, textile design, product design, graphic design, toy design, film, and photography. Charles and Ray Eames brought a sense of innocence and playfulness to the design process, as well as a tremendous love and discipline in all they created in many different fields and mediums.

There's also no real organization to the book which definitely makes it "not a guide". This early period of their lives is illustrated by several drawings and paintings by Charles and Ray with each piece exhibiting a pleasing combination of color and form that would later become the hallmark of their work.
Demetrios devotes two pages on the issue of the Eameses signing with either Knoll or Herman Miller for the plywood group. What makes this book essential reading is the personal nature of the writing, connections, and the concept of "design addressing itself to the need."
Much of this personal nature is expressed in the chapter on the life of Charles Eames and Ray Kaiser before their meeting at Cranbrook, including extensive writing on each family history.
